Who touched me?

As the Carpenter was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him...

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years; she had spent all she had on doctors, but no one could heal her.

She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak and immediately her bleeding stopped.

Who touched me?” the Carpenter asked.

When they all denied it, Peter said. "Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you."

But the Carpenter said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”

Then the woman, seeing she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed.

Then he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace."

Many people press against him, nothing happens. Then one woman, with fierce determination, forces her way through the crowd and in desperation she blindly reaches through legs and knees and sandals and just does manage to grab the passing hem of his garment.

The Carpenter feels this electric transfer of healing power flow out from within him. It stopped him in his tracks. (I love this part.)

Who touched me?” the Carpenter asked.

Only one person knew the truth. She trembled. Her bleeding had not stopped for years. Ceremonially she was unclean, forbidden to enter the temple, forced outside out of society - for years.  Touching this woman was out of the question. Nevertheless, she reached through the crowd thinking "If I can just touch his clothes..."

Who touched me?” the Carpenter asked.

The source and destination of this energy transference are nearly identical. Seeing this, the Carpenter has compassion.
"Daughter" he says "thy faith has made you whole. Go in peace."

Some translations say he felt 'power' flow out.  Other translations call it "virtue" or even "goodness".  The original Greek word dunamis is often translated as "power" or "virtue".  Our English words "dynamo" and "dynamic" also come from dunamis and mean "power, might, strength, force."  Perhaps this same power and healing energy is what the Hindu call "prana" and the ancient Chinese call "chi". (Dunno.

But I just love that the Carpenter is as almost as surprised as the woman! Who touched me? Goodness and mercy seem to flow where they will. This dunamis / healing power seems to behaves like electricity. It goes wherever it can go. It does not judge. It goes wherever it can go.  Make me a channel of thy peace...
